Set in 1896 at Girton College, Cambridge, Blue Stockings follows Tess Moffat and her fellow first-year students as they navigate the challenges of university life in a world that firmly believes a woman’s place is in the home.
As they fight for the right to be educated, to graduate, and to be taken seriously, these four young women must balance ambition, friendship, and the expectations placed upon them by society and the men around them.
Written by Jessica Swale, this witty, moving and thought-provoking play was a sell-out success at Shakespeare’s Globe and remains a firm favourite with audiences across the UK. Blending humour, romance and powerful historical insight, Blue Stockings tells an inspiring story of determination, resilience and the fight for equality.
